I first found NWPT many, many (many) years ago when I was working a corporate job in Downtown Vancouver. My sedentary lifestyle wasn’t doing me any favors, and I needed some help to learn how to take care of my body a bit better. I immediately felt at home by NWPT’s welcoming atmosphere. To this day, I enjoy seeing everyone’s smiling and sweaty faces and I know I’m surrounded by lots of folks ready to meet me wherever I am in my fitness journey. Throughout these many, many (many) years, I’ve had a lot of different fitness goals and I’ve always found support in whatever adventure I’m pursuing.
Many, many years ago, I wanted to learn to run, so I partnered with a NWPT trainer to help build strength in my legs and learn how to increase my distance so I could jog a 5k. Then jog a 10k. Eventually, I was able to complete a half marathon, but it turns out, I really am not a fan of running. So, many years ago, I decided to train for a triathlon. I tried some spinning classes and Bob taught me how to swim in open water and not lose my cool. I finished a sprint triathlon. Then another. And then an olympic triathlon. Turns out, there’s running in triathlons too, so I tried a relay and had someone else do the running leg. Best. Triathlon. Ever.
Today, Nick is teaching me weightlifting. More specifically, he’s teaching me how to lift very heavy things in a way that I won’t injure my (almost) 50 year old body. I also enjoy the occasional group fitness class. I still jog, swim, bike, ski, walk, and hike, and I have the tools in my toolbox to do those things without injuring myself too often.
If you’re looking for a little advice in this testimonial, I would simply say: Show up and share your goals with a trainer. Even if you don’t know what your goals are, and even if they change, at NWPT, you’ll have a partner in your journey wherever your journey takes you.
