Laural is a master of keeping a healthy balance with work, exercise and play!

Working with a Personal Trainer at NWPT was and continues to be one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself!! All of the trainers I have had the opportunity to work with are AMAZING!!! I truly would not be able to lift or push myself to accomplish the weights or the workouts I have experienced at NWPT without their encouragement and support along the way. I feel that I am in the best shape of my life, and at 58, that’s saying a lot!!! Thank you all so much!!!! My daughter, Jenni, started working out at NWPT approximately 6 months before I made the decision to try working with a Personal Trainer. She was having fun, enjoying her workouts, even though they were tough, and starting to see results. But let’s back up just a few years though to see where my exercise/fitness journey started. I started working out after my Freshman year in college, when the “Freshman 15” appeared and I couldn’t believe it!! I had not needed to worry about my weight before that, so this was going to be a change, but one that I welcomed. I started running with my sister and I have tried to continue staying active ever since. I have enjoyed a variety of workouts and group classes over the years, and I was able to maintain a healthy weight and feel good about myself. After turning 40 though, I started to notice changes in my body and despite continuing to exercise, inches appeared to increase in places I was definitely not happy with!! I noticed that my metabolism was slowing down even though I was working out and continuing to eat healthy. I thought at the time I just needed to work out more, which became increasingly challenging with a change in my job at work that required increased hours and was a bit more sedentary than I was used to. It was becoming harder and harder to find the time to work out and it is very easy to find reasons why you can’t work out. In January of 2012 I had a torn meniscus in my left knee and I needed surgery to repair it. After the initial recovery time and working with Physical Therapy, I found that my workouts were starting to be more inconsistent for various reasons, and I was not happy with myself at all. When you are not happy with yourself and how you look and feel, it does start to affect all aspects of your life. I needed to do something different and that is when I decided to try working out with a Personal Trainer. I started at NWPT in January of 2013. The key word that meant the most to me at the time was “ACCOUNTABILITY” to help get me back on the path to a consistent work out schedule, and it worked!!! I was able to schedule my training sessions right after work, which worked out perfectly, before heading home for the evening, so the excuses were gone!!! After the first year, I also realized that in addition to my Personal Training hours, I needed to add consistent cardio workouts to my weekly workout schedule. The muscle strength and toning has been amazing, but I was losing my stamina and endurance for my cardiovascular health, which is also so very important to my overall health. I would very much like to thank all of the staff at NWPT for this recognition of client of the month for September for “Balance”. I do feel that I have achieved “balance” in my life with my job as a Nurse, spending time with my family and friends, and working out at NWPT to continue to be the healthy, strong and happy in all aspects of my life!!! You are all so amazing and supportive and I could not have reached the goals I have for myself so far without you!!!
