Energy. Gretchen seems to have endless energy for her workouts and in her life! We love it!!

Each of us trains for different reasons. Some of us want to lose weight, others want to build muscle, while most of us want to look and feel great. Nearly ten years ago, I was in a head-on collision on Fruit Valley Road. While I’d survived physically, my body was broken. I suffered from near constant back and neck pain, my core had become soft, damaged by the injury and inactivity. Each time I’d tried returning to exercise, I came away from a few days at the gym with renewed inflammation and pain that kept me away for months at a time. As a part of my recovery, my doctor recommended I work out with a trainer to help break the cycle of injury. Enter NWPT. I worked slowly from basic floor exercises, to Jason’s outdoor summer bootcamp class, and now, 9 years later, to squat rowing 250 pounds and winning Ted’s “carry a weight plate overhead” weekly challenge-in the men’s category. Now, I run, I practice Krav Maga, and weight train at NWPT twice a week. On a perfect week, I exercise about eight hours. I hate to haggle with Einstein, who theorized that energy is neither created nor destroyed, but I have found so much more energy in my life to do the things I want because I work out. When I run, I am faster. When I lift, I am stronger. When I spar at Krav, I am better able to withstand the blows that the guys are (inevitably) able to land on my body. I recover faster and am revved up for the next challenge. NWPT is at the heart of my physical life; the community of experts I have discovered here support each aspect of my training regimen and provide unending nutritional and emotional support so that I can keep doing the things I love to do. I am a different person than I was in the years after my accident. I run, I do martial arts, I lift and squat and row. I have so much energy that I am able to go hard for two and a half hours at Krav Maga, to run half marathons, and to do multiple workouts a day several days a week. That being said, I have recently discovered the downside of overtraining and am working to balance my routine with more rest, great food, and workouts that are tailored to my body’s vibe for the day. Perhaps Einstein was right: energy is neither created nor destroyed, but in my case has been transformed-it ebbs and flows, but is always there, awaiting the next adventure. When I look back and think about how I felt when I first walked through the door at NWPT, I am so grateful for the investment in me by each member of NWPT’s phenomenal staff. I am pushed to the limit by Kristin, Ted, and Derrick; but everyone, from each trainer I slip into my schedule to the amazing team up front, is committed to supporting me on my continuing journey toward the healthiest life I can lead. All I have to do is keep showing up.
