Committing to a fitness routine that is sustainable over time is something that has historically been a struggle for me, and I’m grateful to have finally found something that has worked! I joined NWPT almost immediately after moving to the PNW back in August of ’22, and since then I’ve had a nearly 100% attendance record. I was athletic and really active back in my teens and early twenties, but no subsequent gym memberships I’ve held nor fitness regimens I’ve attempted have ever come close to getting the kind of long-term consistency I’ve been able to achieve with my membership here.

Until joining NWPT, the only regular physical activity I’d had in my life in the preceding few years was walking my stupid dog (I kid – he’s an obnoxiously intelligent Husky). My career has had me hunched over a laptop for hours on end for the last 20 years, and I think we can all agree that thwacking away at a keyboard all day doesn’t quite satisfy the definition of ‘sport.’ These unfortunate realities, coupled with the natural physical decline that being in one’s forties typically has to offer, meant that I was in the worst shape of my life. Since I was already undergoing a pretty significant life change with my move here, I was determined to make a concurrent change of breaking the cycle of idleness and lethargy. Thanks largely to working with Nick for the last 18 months, I’ve accomplished that very goal, along with a transformation that I honestly did not think was possible!

Nick has been incredible. Not only has he continually pushed me to work towards my goals with nothing but patience and tenacity, his expertise has also helped me navigate the odd minor injury, or random “this joint hurts for mysterious reasons” (again, with the forties). But what I’ve gotten from NWPT has not been limited to Nick’s highly skilled offerings. When I first joined I also had regular sessions with Jamie, who I really enjoyed working with through to her eventual departure from NWPT. I’ve also worked with a number of other trainers on the occasions when I’ve had to train outside of my normal schedule, and every single time was a challenging workout and great experience.

The routine exercise I’ve been getting at NWPT has played a crucial role in improving not only my physical health and energy level, but also my mental health. The latter has been particularly true for me as someone who suffers from Seasonal Affective Disorder, and I shudder to think how I’d endure the gloomy PNW winters without my NWPT routine!
