I’ve always been active and kept my weight within a certain range, but 18 months ago I found myself 7 pounds over my “never go above” weight—and nothing I tried worked. At 59, I told my friend Heidi that menopause must be the culprit and that the belly and booty “growth” were part of it. She encouraged me to try weight training to boost my metabolism and strength. I’d never lifted or belonged to a gym, and the idea felt intimidating! But if my weight wasn’t going down, I hoped to at least turn some of it into muscle.

Heidi, who has trained at NPT for nearly 20 years, brought me in as her workout buddy with trainer extraordinaire Alicia Rose. Alicia asked thoughtful questions about my activities, joint issues, and diet, and she has steadily pushed me.
