Strategies for a stronger, happier and healthier low back


In this 4-week series, taught by a local physical therapist and movement expert, Dr. Jeni Gall, you will learn exercises and daily movement strategies to maximize your training sessions, reduce the time for recovery, and know how to adapt when you are not in session with your trainer or group fitness instructor. We will explore habitual patterns of movement and common “errors” (totally fixable!) in how we sit, stand, lift, push, pull, carry, walk and run so you can use these new skills to improve the quality of your life at home, work and play. Every session includes movement lessons and practical applications to take home with you and start using right away.


Week One: Power Up Your Hips to Calm Down Your Back
Improving the movement at your HIPS is absolutely essential to having a healthy low back. This session will explore how movement at your hips and strength in your glutes and legs are key to healing your low back and getting fitter, faster and stronger at any age.


Week Two: Power Down Your Abs to Fire Up Your Core
Strong and healthy muscles are muscles that can both relax and perform. In this session, we will explore how constant tension in the abdominal muscles contributes to pain in your low back and hips. Discover techniques for more fully relaxing your belly and back muscles to reduce back pain right away, plus get your postural muscles primed to perform optimally when you lift, push, pull, carry and generally go about your day. You will leave this session feeling relaxed, centered and strong in your core.


Week Three: Lift, Push, Carry and Pull
Strong, healthy backs are super helpful for the tasks you do every day, in the kitchen, garden, at work, and during your workouts. In this dynamic session, we will learn and practice techniques for lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying that you can use right away to keep your back safe while you go about your daily tasks.


Week Four: Fine Tuning and Foam Rolling
In this session, we will bring it all together and practice dynamic warm-ups for your hips, best exercises for your personal “postural bias” and how to use timing, sequencing, and breath to get the most out of your exercise routines. You will also be guided through a foam roller routine for your glutes, hips, and legs to release tension in your low back and help you sleep. You will go home feeling great and ready to tackle your pain, prevent injuries, and maximize your potential.
